FOLLOWING last year's defeat in the final, the Gibbs Williams-coached G.C Foster College went one place better in the University of Technology (UTech) Twenty 20 Cricket Classics, as they scored a five-wicket win over The Mico University in the final at UTech yesterday.

Scores: Mico 135 all out; GC Foster 139 for five off 19 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Mico got a good start from openers Ramon Senior and Zeniffe Fowler, who added 31 runs for the first wicket before the latter was run out for 11. Mico suffered a major setback eight runs later as their top batsman, Shacoya Thomas - the leading batsman in the preliminary round of the competition - also went by the run out route for a paltry two.

Henry shared a very important 58-run fourth-wicket partnership with Senior, before Henry was caught on the long-off boundary off the bowling of pacer Dwight Stewart for 25.

Nine runs later Henry, who topscored with 45, was bowled by Pete Salmon. GC Foster then took control as Mico lost their last six wickets for 29 runs. Salmon was the top wicket-taker, claiming four for 21, while Derval Green chipped in with two for 22.

Despite an average start where they lost two wickets for 32, the Spanish Town-based team was rescued by their leading batsman, Green, who made 35 with four fours and one six. Along with Oraine Williams, he put on 64 runs for the third wicket. With the loss of Green, Mico cut the run rate and with two overs GC Foster needed 14 runs.

In the penultimate over, Kerron Davis smashed all 14 runs off Henry to push his team to a five-wicket win. Davis ended on 18 not out. Kemar Foster, with 25, also contributed to GC Foster's winning total. Mico's top bowler was Henry, with two for 32.
