Jamaica now has an additional 24 certified IAAF Track and Field coaches courtesy of GC Foster College in collaboration with the JAAA. The course started on December 19 and concluded on Sunday December 30th with a graduation ceremony at the GC Foster College. Included in the batch of 24 coaches were two females. Participating coaches came from eight (8) parishes where they have been employed as coaches in primary, secondary schools, as well as clubs.
The course is an updated version of the Kids Athletics programme where these participants are now certified “Youth Coaches”.
The course was initiated and coordinated by lecturer of the college, Mr. Paul Beckford who holds level 4 certification in the area of sprints and hurdles. As the coordinator of the programme, Mr. Beckford expressed his desire in ensuring that the GC Foster College plays an integral role in providing the opportunity for persons to acquire certification in any field of sports which will help to solidify GC Foster’s position as the premier institution of sports in the Caribbean.
