The Jamaica Badminton Association’s Shuttle Time Programme, a developmental training programme initiated by the Badminton World Federation, has been introduced at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education & Sport. The 2 day training workshop, which runs from September 25 – 26, 2015, is geared towards certifying primary and high school teachers to teach badminton. The 8 hour per day intense course caters to people who have never played the sport and who possess a desire to teach. The basic aspects of the sport will be covered. Additionally, assessment and evaluation of teachers will be completed. Successful candidates will be certified as level 1 Shuttle Time Teachers. The facilitators include assistant convener, Certified Tutor and G.C. Foster College graduate Michelle Humphrey-Hylton, and trainer, Mr. Gregory Wong, who is currently the highest ranked instructor in Jamaica. He is also the National and Regional Shuttle Time Coordinator. Wong stated that the workshop looks very promising and that he was pleased with the large turnout – 18. He further stated that this will ultimately cause a growth in the sport”.
The programme aims to develop the sport in Jamaica which will undoubtedly result in more competitive players locally, regionally and internationally. This Shuttle Time effort supports Jamaica’s Vision 2030 development plan which speaks to the quality of our life in relation to our education, health, nutrition, security, governance, sports and cultural expression.

G.C. Foster College embarked on an initiative to offer support to the community during this time of crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 13, 2020, care packages were distributed to members of the surrounding community who have exhibited a need and would have benefitted from the College’s support over the years. The G.C. Foster College continues to shine as a beacon of light, not only through physical education and sport, but through supporting the community.
